Hi! I’m Joseph (Vancouver, BC) and welcome to my Friends for Life Bike Rally fundraising page.
This will be my first-year participating in this rally, and I am delighted to join this inspiring community of peers. Fundraising proceeds directly support the founding organization: Toronto People With AIDS Foundation (PWA). The PWA’s mission is to engage people living with HIV/AIDS in enhancing their health and well-being through practical and therapeutic support services and broader social change, and inspire them to live into their dreams and discoveries.
My friends and family know me best as a passionate road cyclist. I first got into cycling when I moved from Kelowna, BC to Vancouver, BC in 2018. At first, it started out as a functional means (commuting to/from work, running errands). Within a year, I inherited my first road bike and the rest is history. Since I started tracking my activity in Strava, I have completed 1,069 (and counting) unique rides, spanning almost 20,000 km. My proudest cycling accomplishment (to-date), was completing the RBC Gran Fondo race from Vancouver, BC to Whistler, BC (122km). I’m ready for my next challenge!
I acknowledge that these are challenging economic times, and supporting charity events such as this may not be feasible. It is in this context that I humbly ask for your support in reaching my fundraising goal of $1,950 CAD. You are donating to a registered Canadian charity (#13111 3151 RR0001), and your gift is receiptable for income tax purposes.
As a proud member of the LGBTQ2+ community, the work the PWA does is incredibly meaningful to me. While I am HIV-negative, I can only imagine how important access to financial assistance, affordable medications, therapeutic care, food programs, and harm reduction programs would be – particularly in a world where so much shame and stigma continues to persist. I would be honoured if you would support me in helping my community, by donating towards this charity ride.
