One Day Can Still Make a Difference!
This is my 9th year with the Friends for Life Bike Rally. Yup! You read that right. 9 years! I’ve ridden 5 times, worked with the Wellness Crew 3 times, and this year I’ll join the riders for one day as we cycle from Toronto to Port Hope. The Riders and Crew will continue all the way on to Montreal and I will cheer them on their way.
Why have I stuck with the rally for so long? Honestly, it’s a really good time. Summer camp for adults! Amazing people doing something good for their bodies while building community, and helping others. Together we raise money and awareness for people living with HIV. There’s so much misinformation and stigma surrounding HIV. This lack of knowledge perpetuates further spread of the virus in new and vulnerable communities, and denies funding and opportunities for people who live with the virus.
So the money we raise for the People with AIDS Foundation through the F4LBR goes directly into our community. Local people who need access to life saving medication, housing, education, food, and a myriad of opportunities. All of this restores peoples dignity and hope, often after a difficult journey.
I’m proud of my involvement with the rally. I can see the lives it has touched. The stories that get shared over campfires of people’s lived experience with HIV have kept me coming back year after year.
So here I am raising money again. If you have donated before, thank you. You have no idea how far those dollars have reached, and I will humbly ask you to donate again. If this is the first time, welcome!!! Trust me, you’re doing a great thing.
Together we’re making one small corner of the world brighter and it’s worth it. $25, $50, $100 or more! Whatever you can, donate today!
