Welcome to my Friends for Life Bike Rally page!
My career in the nonprofit sector began in 2002 as the Director of Education at AIDS Community Care in Montreal.
In 2002, my boss lived with HIV and refused to celebrate his birthday because it was a reminder of his death sentence. PrEP was decades away on the horizon. Treatment was almost as toxic as chemotherapy.
24 years later, my former boss is alive and thriving and HIV is not the death sentence it once was.
BUT...it's not a happy ending for everyone.
While HIV treatment has transformed outcomes for many Canadians, access to that treatment depends on stability that poverty makes impossible. People living with HIV who are food insecure, precariously housed, or navigating the immigration system face compounding barriers that medication alone cannot address.
This is why I'm riding from Toronto to Montreal and fundraising for Toronto PWA, so they can continue critical services for people living with HIV who are struggling with poverty, food security, homelessness, and mental health issues.
Thank you for your support!
With appreciation,
Ainsley
