Hello bonjour!
For a third year in a row I am biking to Montreal with the Friends for Life Bike Rally in support of people living with HIV/AIDS.
There are two ways you can help:
- Donate to my campaign and help me reach my fundraising goal;
- Ride with me for the adventure of a lifetime! (you won't regret it!)
Why I'm riding for a third year on this incredible 6 day journey:
- Riding 600 km over 6 days while camping is a great active vacation: It's all about spending quality time with friends (new and old alike) and supporting local communities.
- Pushing yourself physically is rewarding. It also promotes healthy aging. The ride is well supported throughout the year, helping everyone get the training and support needed to accomplish the 6-day ride. If I can do it, anyone can!
- The People with Aids Foundation (PWA) is an exceptional organization that does an incredible job at building and supporting its communities. Now in its 27th year, this volunteer led event is critical to ensuring that PWA is able to deliver its services and programs. Despite a 35% rise in HIV cases in Canada (2023 vs 2022), Ontario's shifting public health care system, paired with the wider political and economic environment, is putting much needed funding and communities at risk.
- 25% of people living with HIV are women - Many women contract HIV through sexual violence, often used as a weapon of war.
This event is important to me as a way of pushing back against the growing misogyny, hate, and discrimination toward the LGBTQIA+ and trans communities. HIV is a misunderstood virus that doesn't discriminate, people do.
