Welcome to my Friends for Life Bike Rally page!
So, I'm doing the Friends for Life Bike Rally for a third time. You likely already know from the last couple of years why I’m doing it, but this year there is a new, local angle…
“Over the last two years, I’ve seen first hand the critical financial support the rally has provided to organizations supporting those struggling with AIDS/HIV, and now I am really happy to announce that Ottawa’s Bruce House is on the list of Rally benefactors!
Like PWA, Bruce House addresses urgent challenges like access to stable housing, food, healthcare, and wellness resources. To learn out more about Bruce House and the important work they do, go to https://brucehouse.ca/
To this day, HIV is a lifelong challenge, physically, mentally and financially. Not to mention social isolation: Are you estranged from your family or communities because of your status? Imagine not having a place where you feel safe and able to be yourself, with no shame or judgement because of your HIV status. I’m lucky(emphasis on the word lucky) enough to not have to face any of that.
So this year I am hoping to raise seven thousand dollars. To coax you to donate, here are some things I’m offering:
Tune Ups: If you want, donate 100$ and I’ll tune up your bike! Since I have 20 years experience fixing bikes, I figure I might as well use it to good end. Tune ups are labour only, repair parts will cost extra.
Signed Books! Donate 200$ and you can get a personalized copy of John Ibbitison’s book, The Duel.
Or, for $500 or more, He will come and do a talk! If you have an event, book club, group or class, and you live in the Ottawa area, John will come and talk about stuff that he’s written, about the political scene, about his years as a journalist - whatever is relevant and interesting to your group. If you’re out of town, then you cover transport & lodging as well.
