I'm riding 600km from Toronto to Montreal for a second year to support people living with HIV!
Over the last few years, cycling has carried me through some of life's harder moments and done more for my mental health than almost anything else. It has gotten me to places, brought new people in my life and completely changed my relationship with my body and this city.
Every year, I log upwards of 8,000 km on Strava (and that’s not counting commuting distances), and for the second year in a row, I'm putting all that mileage and training towards something bigger than me. Since 1999 the Friends for Life Bike Rally has engaged 5,700+ cyclists and 2,290 crew members and raised more than $30 million for people living with HIV/AIDS. The money funds frontline services through the Toronto People With AIDS Foundation (PWA) and other organizations, helping over 5,000 people a year with the things that rarely make headlines: food, financial assistance, medication, and dignity.
Since the epidemic began, more than 44 million people have died of AIDS-related illness — that's more than a whole Canada's worth of people. While 87% of people diagnosed in Canada are in treatment, and 95% of those in treatment are undetectable and untransmittable, heterosexual contact is now the largest source of new diagnoses in Canada, disproportionately affecting women of colour, newcomers and other vulnerable populations.
I can't fix all of that alone from my bike, but with your support, we can help those who need it most.
Here's how you can help:
→ Donate on this page to help me reach my goal
→ Share this link with your network to spread the word
→ If you're in Toronto and you ride, join the Rally and start your own page
I count with your support, any help is sincerely appreciated :)
