I’m excited to participate, for a third year, in the Friends for Life Bike Rally to raise awareness and money to support people living with HIV/AIDS.
The months of training, spending 6 days with a group of likeminded people, cycling in all weather conditions, sleeping in a tent, persevering through falls, are like no other experiences I have had in life. When deciding to participate again this year, the decision was easy.
Through all these experiences, I gained a deeper understanding of the supports and services the HIV agencies provide and how beneficial the money that I raise is to the work they provide. The money raised supports HIV agencies to redouble their efforts to fight stigma and provide well-needed services to help people living with HIV/AIDS. The money raised helps in providing food, wellness care, peer support or a place that is welcoming and safe.
The breakthrough in HIV treatment, testing and prevention have benefited countless people, but leave too many behind. Today, two global health crises are happening simultaneously: HIV/AIDS and Drug Poisoning. What these have in common is that the greatest impacts are experienced by our community's most marginalized and stigmatized. People living with HIV/AIDS have been disproportionately affected by the social isolation, loss of income and food security. People living with HIV/AIDS continue to experience stigma and barriers to services. The Federal Government is drastically cutting funding for HIV services across the country, on top of Provincial cuts.
I hope you’ll join me at the Friends for Life Bike Rally and help support our fundraising efforts with a donation. My goal is to raise $3,000. You can help support by making a secure online donation using your credit card. A tax receipt is available for all donations.
This cause is close to my heart, and I hope you can join me in supporting it!
