Welcome to my Friends for Life Bike Rally page!

 

I'm excited to be part of the Friends for Life Bike Rally in support of people living with HIV/AIDS. Why am I doing this? Well, two reasons:

The first reason is that it's been four years since I retired from the bicycle industry, and it felt as though I needed a goal for the season, to re-engage with cycling at the level I used to. This rally has always been on my bucket list, so I thought now was the time (and a new bike added to the motivation)!

The second is perhaps  even more personal. I grew up surrounded by HIV; I was afraid of catching it; I watched people I care about get it; I've lost people to it; And I continue to see people contracting it. I know that life with HIV is a challenge: can you afford your meds? Are you having mental health and self esteem issues because you're positive? Are you estranged from your family or communities because of your status? I'm lucky(emphasis on the word lucky) enough to not have to face any of that.

So I'm taking my good fortune and hoping to raise six thousand dollars by pedaling my ass off for 6 days. The money raised goes to organizations that help people living with HIV/AIDS. People who need food, wellness care, peer support, or just to be in a place that is welcoming and safe for them.
